Travis Logan is well respected on the Country music scene as not only a great vocalist, but also an accomplished musician. If he isn’t performing Country music then he can be found listening to a Country song or in his studio writing and recording Country music, or if he isn’t doing that, then he is probably relaxing watching a cowboy film from his extensive collection of western films.
Travis Logan was born into a mining family in Derbyshire in the 1960s where he was brought up in a down to earth family which had strong family ties. His father listened to Country music all the time, usually to his favourites such as Jim Reeves, Hank Locklin and Johnny Cash. Travis is a man who appreciates and respects the little things in life. He has a tremendous amount of compassion for the less fortunate and will help anyone who tries to obtain their goals in life.
Travis knew from an early age that, unlike his brothers (one of them Darren his twin), that he was destined to pursue his love of Country music. He first started performing at the age of six in the school choir and took an instant admiration for performing. By this time his parents had bought him his first guitar, prompting him to begin taking guitar lessons, which then led quickly to him learning how to play the violin, piano and organ.
Travis cut his first vinyl record whilst playing with the north east Derbyshire orchestra at the age of 10. This was followed by drama classes, passing several examinations from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Also, at this time he was playing concerts with the Fred Baker classical guitar tuition school and excelled with his classical guitar obtaining several good grades.
He really lives and breathes Country music and all aspects of it. Very few artistes can offer the vast selection of styles associated with the Country music genre, and his dedication to his craft, his down to earth outlook, his fun to be with personality and his loyalty to the public, are just a few things which are important to him, but the most important thing to Travis is that the Country music fans throughout the UK enjoy their, and his Country music. To his credit he has performed in nine different countries with numerous bands, has been a session musician and is also an avid songwriter. He was also pleased to be invited, during his career, to spend six months in Nashville performing and recording with some of the greatest Country music musicians and singers in the world.
After spending 17 years as a performer mainly performing in cabaret venues, hotels, holiday camps and cruise ships, Travis launched himself onto the British country music circuit in 2003 and quickly began making lots of friends.
After registering scores of his own songs with ASCAP, professional artists can then choose songs from the catalogue to record and release as a single or be used as an album filler. Texas-based country music singer Claude Gray came across a song from the catalogue which got his attention and chose to release it. It’s a song written by Travis called The Girl Who Made This Cowboy Cry.
Travis was enthralled to receive a call from Claude and says, “I was painting a room in my house when I received a call from Brigitte, a record producer in Texas, and she explained what was required. Claude then came on the telephone and introduced himself”. Travis went on to say that Claude said, “that’s a mighty fine song you have. I would have thought a real cowboy from Montana had written it, not a guy from England!”
Travis says, “I suppose because a third of the world’s country music is sold in Texas alone, Claude found it hard to believe that country music here in the UK is very popular.” Travis sings the song at his gigs and it is one of the five songs featured on my video.
